CONTEMPT FOR ANOTHER HUMAN BEING IS THE RESULT OF FEAR GROUNDED IN IGNORANCE . . . There has never been a prophet, saint, sage, messiah or world religious leader who has ever taught hatred as part of his or her message. Embrace Foundation believes that the contempt for another human being, hatred and discrimination based in difference of belief and culture, is the result of fear grounded in ignorance.
The power of the media to educate and change attitudes is indeed obvious in this day and age and the ability of forward looking leaders of all religions to utilize this medium in a productive, unified way not only requires considerable funding but continual onslaughts of unbiased information and education to the world public, via newspapers, magazines, public service announcements on radio and television, Ad Council Advertising in buses and subways and more ingenious methods in countries where the majority of the people are illiterate.
Today in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America, some of the most profoundly creative developments are occurring. Soon our colleagues and friends in these parts of the world will be leading the way in "global thinking." Everyone in Embrace has long been concerned with protecting the cultural lifestyles, religious/philosophical freedom and human rights of grassroots people in non-Western countries.. now we also must work to protect the human rights in the Western Nations. This website includes articles of special interest to the all "thinking" people of the world but especially to those living in or interested in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Central/ South America.
THE OBJECTIVE IS TO CREATE BETTER UNDERSTANDING ... THROUGH EXPOSURE & EDUCATION Secular attempts by religious organizations in the effort to expose injustices usually have little affect on the general public, whether it is the Irish Catholics denouncing the discrimination of their Protestant counterparts or a Jewish organization talking about the evils of anti-semitism. Both groups may raise more money from their own people, but nothing has really effectively changed the problem.
Moreover, in many religions, the divergence between the sects is more bitter, than any differences they have with people of a different faith altogether. Embrace offers one of the few opportunities for those who follow the essential teaching of a world religious leader, prophet, saint, or messiah to find a common meeting ground.
EMBRACE FOUNDATION IS SUPPORTED BY LEADERS REPRESENTING RELIGIONS AROUND THE WORLD It is with the support of scholars and religious leaders around the world that Embrace was founded in 1982. The Embrace International Advisory & Lecture Board in 1985, sponsored the International Press Conference For Religious Peace at the U.N. Church Center.
In a show of solidarity, representatives all the world religions spoke out in opposition to military and political leaders who use the name of religion to sanctify themselves and to wage war. They called for the exercise of responsibility by the world press in reporting stories where hostilities are occurring between people of different religions or cultures. Too often, the media irresponsibly cites religious rather than political or economic interests as the reason for fighting taking place around the world. Sensationalistic and simplistic reporting more often than not, exploits a situation fanning the flames of anger and intolerance.
THERE IS NO IMMUNITY FROM ORGANIZED HATRED EXCEPT TO BROADEN PEOPLE'S MINDS SO THEY CAN'T BE INDOCTRINATED Embrace Foundation has produced 18 "Great Visions" educational television shows, where the viewer can witness first time events, such as a dialogue between a Rabbi and a Buddhist monk, a discussion between Christian and Islamic scholars . . . Visits by Hindu Swamis, Sikhs, Jains, Sufis..
POLITICS & RELIGION Embrace Foundation is strictly a non-political organization.
HUMANITY IS FUNDAMENTALLY THE SAME ANYWHERE YOU GO IN THE WORLD Individuals left to their own devices, generally manage to get along with one another. People to people, humanity is fundamentally the same anywhere you go in the world. Everyone wants to have good health, an appropriate shelter, enough food, love, freedom to believe in a philosophy or religion as he or she chooses and to live life in peace. To be happy is the basic goal of all humankind.
Whether people pray to God, Yahweh, call out to Allah, meditate for Buddha-Consciousness, plea to Vishnu and so on, it is all the same. The wishes, sorrows, hopes, fears of people everywhere have the same bond of humanity.
